When Should You Switch Your Child From Crib to Bed?

When Should You Switch Your Child From Crib to Bed?

For new parents, this can be a difficult question to answer. With the risk involved, some parents may be a little scared to make the jump from crib to bed. Luckily, with the advent of the internet, there are several sources that discuss the very same question I have raised in great detail. Keep in mind these are suggestions, not rules and that this advice may not be the best for your child.

According to Baby Center, There really is no absolute time frame that is best for your child. A lot of help that is, right? Well, they do give a little bit of advice in addition to the seemingly vague idea that there is no set age. They do state that children between the ages of 1 and a half years old to 3 and a half years old is the typical time frame where parents will make the move. They go on to say that it may be best to wait until your child is on the older side of the age range because the younger they are, the more attached they may be to their life-long sleeping place.

Active Child

Some parents may make the switch because their child is climbing out of their crib already. This is usually prompted by fear and it's kind of a knee jerk reaction to the possibility that your child will injure themselves in their nightly climb. This kinda goes along with the idea that you shouldn't rush the child since they may not be ready to give the crib up themselves. Because children are all different, this is where you will just have to go with your own knowledge of your child. Some children are just adventurous and they will climb anything.

New Baby on the Way

Some people may be in a rush to get the crib open for a new baby on the way. If that is the case, you may want to do a fair bit of prepping for the new arrival by trying to stoke your child up for the new bed. Most children can get excited for their new "big kid bed" that they are about to get. Some children, however, may see it as a threat or they can have feelings that the new baby is taking over their stuff. You may be able to help foster a sense of self and pride in the switch by taking them to let them pick out new blankets and sheets for their big switch. You could possibly let them sleep with their new blanket in the crib to help establish a connection and sense of safety during the change. This may not always work, but there are a few of the suggestions.
